The Royal Days International Folk Dance Festival on the eve of the famous Kalyi Jag gave a concert in the Town Hall Square, and the legend’s musical presentation of the Roma as well.

The Kalyi Jag Ensemble was founded more than thirty years ago, and today is one of the most respected and most fitting representative of the authentic gypsy culture. Excellent vocal talent and inimitable virtuoso instrumental technique distinguishes them from everyone else. Gustav Varga, co-founder in 1997 and material collected in India in 1999, rendering the work of the musical stage, which the Roma’s history, cultural diversity presents.

“They say that the mysterious Gypsy people, there is no written history, only legends and myths. The roads are stories, legends born in the hearts songs, music with passion and grief intertwined in” - we heard the prologue, and then begins the tale: the play specific tunes, spectacular dance shows in the history of the mysterious migration of Roma. Sometime long ago, even before Christ lived in India for a king called Rama. He was the brother of Sind. Sind’s mother, the wife of maharajah smallest Goddess Kali appeared in a dream, and I whispered in his ear, that does not go to the Ramat crown, but his son, Sinden. Rama then people started wandering, during which arrive in Egypt, the Persian empire, and then to Europe as well.

The bilingual version of the piece was first presented in 2005, and has also played with great success. The forty productions, costumed dancers and musicians bring to life a decisive chapters in the history of the Roma, the typical scenes demanding costumes, scenery and illustrate the characteristic dances.

How coincidental I had found this when I wanted to draw one of my own characters in a similar outfit…

I like his ponytail on his shoulder :)
